Spread your wings and fly!

paragl sunflowers 55pcntYour lessons will take place in the mountains of southeast Oklahoma- only a 4 hour drive from the DFW Metroplex. Your instructor is Ron Kohn, an experienced paragliding pilot with a knack for teaching the sport in a fun and safe way.

We will camp overnight at the paragliding landing zone where you will have the opportunity to meet other pilots, both novice and expert alike. We’ll cook out, probably drink a few beverages and watch the stars. It is a beautiful setting in the forested Ouachita mountains.

Tandem flights are available as well, for a very reasonable price.

Your training equipment will be provided, so there is no large up front commitment to see if paragliding is the right sport for you.

We will have three training sessions this fall. By the end of these three weekends, you will be a confident novice pilot with some of the tools required to advance to the next level of flight.

Trip Includes:

  • Paragliding training on Saturday & Sunday
  • All paragliding equipment
  • Camping
  • Delicious family style dinner on Saturday
  • Breakfast on Sunday

Frequently Asked Questions:

Compliments of Finger Lakes Paragliding

What is Paragliding?

Paragliding is the easiest and slowest form of aviation that is enjoyed all around the world. Thousands of people Paraglide with age groups from ages 10 to 100.

What is a paraglider?

A Paraglider is a simple but very sophisticated aircraft made of non-porous nylon material. When fully inflated with it’s ram air design, it forms a solid wing in which shape is maintained only by air pressure. In essence a Paraglider is an inflatable airfoil.

Paragliders are designed for a soaring flight. A Paraglider pilot with more advanced skills and experience can launch into soaring conditions, where rising parcels of sun heated air can carry a paraglider and pilot aloft and allow for sustained flights of up to several hours, thousands of feet above where they took off from!

Paragliders are usually launched by running down the slope of a hill into the prevailing breeze, until the canopy inflates over the pilot’s head and lifts them off their feet. In stronger conditions the pilot can face the wing and inflate it, until it again comes over the pilot’s head they turn and face into the wind, walk forward until they are lifted off the ground.

Paragliders can be used with a motor (Paramotor) that is similar to being towed, except that you are pushed rather than being pulled.

The entire system (canopy & harness fitted with a reserve chute) fits neatly into a backpack that you can take with you where ever you go!

Is it safe?

Paragliding, horseback riding, ATV’s, Skiing & etc like any other adventure sport have its associated risks. The only way to learn is to be trained by a professional instructor, who can teach you how to make good judgment of assessing the flying conditions and make good safety decisions.

Is it easy to learn?

The basic skills are easy to learn. Paragliding can be enjoyed by almost anyone and it is a good form of recreation. Each person has their own learning style and will progress at a different pace.

Paragliding offers something for all types of pilots, from the recreational flyer to the serious cross-country competition pilot.

Give it a try!  Go for it!! (You will never be the same!)
