Pura Vida Ryan!

I'm excited to hear you're interested in backpacking Costa Rica, one of the most beautiful and friendly countries in the world! There are several great sites out there like Travbuddy.com where it's easy to find travel companions, and I'd be very happy to give you a few tips for some unique destinations you must see when visiting CR! Just email me.

As for vaccinations, we personally do not get any shots for travel to CR, nor have we met anyone yet who does. Still if you look into it you will read about Hepetitis A, and B, Typhoid, and Malaria. Of course I have to recommend here consulting a doctor who specializes in travel medicine.

Happy trails,
~Anina

Great questions Mary,

That's right, you won't need a big back pack this time! Our campsite will be close to the kayak landing, so we will pack everything into the kayak cockpits, as well as into the canoe. Yes, you'll need at least two 20 Liter-capacity dry bags.

When we reach the campsite on Saturday we'll have lunch, set up our tents and take a day hike. We'll take a different trail for a nice day hike on Sunday morning as well, and then paddle back in time to depart in the mid-afternoon.

Once you've registered for the trip you will receive more details about this trip, as well as updates as the date gets near!

Thanks for the questions, I know they're helpful for others as well!

This does sound like fun! But I have a few questions.
1) The kayak has a storage compartment? (The only one I've been in was a tandem ocean kayak, and there was no extra room.)
2) We put all our stuff (tent included) in the waterproof stuff sacks? (No big backpack, I assume.)
3) The hiking then occurs after reaching the campsite?
4) What kind of route do you take? There and back, or in a circular pattern, or is it a thru-trip?
5) Oh, and will we have campfires or just cook over little stoves?

Now I just have to decide which weekend....
Thanks!

Gary,

We aren't taking any snorkeling gear with us, but we will definitely take the opportunity to rent gear when we are near good diving spots.

Only two weeks away now!

PURA VIDA.

The 4 week count-down is upon us- I can't wait to be floating on top of the warm Pacific Ocean with snorkel mask on, staring down at the brilliant underwater world below! I hope we have the good fortune to swim with turtles!!
